US military chief visits troops in Afghanistan KABUL: The top US military commander Admiral Michael Mullen met American soldiers deployed in Afghanistan on Wednesday, kick starting his second visit to the war-torn country in just weeks, an official said.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff arrived early in the morning and traveled to eastern Wardak province to meet newly deployed US forces and Afghan police, said a spokeswoman for the US-led coalition, Elizabeth Mathais.

"They went down to Jalrez district (Wardak province) and met with governor (Haleem) Fadayee and some of the Afghan public protection force," she told reporters.
