Turkish police detain 17 in Al-Qaeda operation

Updated at: 1548 PST,  Tuesday, April 21, 2009  ANKARA: Turkish police Tuesday rounded up 17 people in an operation against the Al-Qaeda network, a local news channel reported. The operation was launched early in the morning in the southern provinces of Gaziantep and Sanliurfa and Konya in central Turkey, the report said. The news agency reported that the police were also searching several locations in the three regions. Earlier this month, seven people were arrested on charges of links to the extremist network following simultaneous operations in the western province of Eskisehir.
